How to use a fire extinguisher
Here’s an easy acronym to help you use a fire extinguisher properly if the need arises.
P-A-S-S (Pull-Aim-Squeeze-Sweep)
Pull the safety pin.
Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire.
Squeeze the handle continuously, standing about three metres away from the fire.
Sweep the nozzle to and fro around the base of the fire.
Once the fire is out, keep an eye on the site of the fire in case it re-ignites.
If the extinguisher runs out before the fire is killed, get yourself and other people out of the building, closing doors behind you, and call the fire brigade.
